Tech Celebrates Earth Day

At ITI, we have the honor of supporting the tech sector on the frontier of groundbreaking advances in environment and sustainability. ITI’s member companies take great pride in their commitment to achieving the triple-bottom line: creating a healthy planet while empowering people and promoting economic growth. Several ITI companies took time to commemorate Earth Day on April 22nd.

The tech sector’s work in reducing waste is a clear trend this Earth Day. HP Inc. is recognizing Earth Day and World Environment Day with the theme of Zero Waste by diverting 92% of waste from landfill by reducing, reusing, and recycling. And Dell used Earth Day to announce a global platform to organize global ocean and river cleanups, another step in support of their multi-year award-winning initiative to tackle plastic pollution in oceans. Lenovo is also using Earth Day to recycle unneeded electronics and expects to collect more than 12 tons of electronic recyclables.

Many companies are taking Earth Day to support local environmental leaders. For example, Oracle’s global offices are celebrating Earth Week by teaming up with environmental NGOs to restore habitats, plant trees, clean up beaches and parklands, protect wildlife, and more to help the environment. In San Francisco, Oracle employees will join CuriOdyssey for its Earth Day Bay Cleanup, and in Bengaluru, India, employees will collaborate with Rotary Bengaluru West to teach kids about the importance of good hygiene and how it helps protect the environment. Visa is also deploying employees in London and Denver for green-themed employee volunteer events.

Earth Day also presents a time to for education and community engagement. Fujitsu showcased their sustainable products at Earth Day Texas, the world’s largest Earth Day event in Dallas, TX. GlobalFoundries' sites in the US, Singapore, Germany and China are all conducting Earth Day events this year including a “Bike to Work Day” in Dresden and an environmental education event for employees’ children at their Burlington, Vermont, site where staff will bring their children to work for an Earth Day event focused on energy efficiency and plastics pollution prevention.

As we continue to drive innovation and invent new products, sustainability will be at the heart of the work we do. We understand that we have a responsibility to ensuring future generations have a chance to enjoy the planet like we do.
