“We commend the House Judiciary Committee for holding today’s hearing to examine alternatives to the Marketplace Fairness Act.  The bill in its current form would impose a costly mandate on technology-enabled small businesses by requiring them to collect and remit state sales taxes in numerous tax jurisdictions across the country, including ones where they have no physical presence.  Legislation to reform the remote collection of state sales taxes should ensure online entrepreneurs are empowered to use technology to grow and expand into new markets. We hope today’s hearing will show that there are a number of options that Congress can consider to address the remote collection of state sales taxes that will not impose a burdensome and complex tax regime on small businesses.”
