WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global voice for the tech sector’s leading companies, issued the following statement from Director of Government Affairs and Legislative Counsel Shannon Taylor, thanking Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), John Conyers (D-Mich.), and Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) for quickly approving the bipartisan USA Freedom Act.

“We applaud Chairmen Goodlatte and Sensenbrenner and Ranking Members Conyers and Nadler for their swift action on the USA Freedom Act. Today’s overwhelming approval of the USA Freedom Act by the House Judiciary Committee shows a strong bipartisan consensus on the way forward in reforming our nation’s surveillance laws. A sunset is no substitute for reform and only Congress can vote to restore trust here at home and globally in our government and the technology sector. We urge the House of Representatives to take equally swift action and approve the USA Freedom Act -- as reported by the Committee -- when it returns from recess next month.”

Upon introduction of the USA Freedom Act yesterday, ITI urged the House Judiciary Committee to move quickly to approve the legislation without introducing harmful amendments.
