WASHINGTON – Today, ITI welcomed the announcement of a path forward for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The deal, announced by Speaker Pelosi this morning, will help ensure the historic agreement can advance toward ratification, boosting the American economy and bringing predictable rules for all companies that use digital technologies in North America.
“The USMCA sets a new and important precedent for modern trade rules that reflect the importance of data, technology, and innovation in the United States and the entire North American economy,” said Jason Oxman, President and CEO of ITI. “Its landmark digital trade provisions promote the seamless flow of data across borders, support American companies that deliver or rely on digital services, and – importantly – preserve and strengthen the United States’ economic relationship with Canada and Mexico. Ratification is critical and represents a major step forward for small and large businesses in the U.S. and in North America broadly. We urge Congress and the Trump Administration to work together and secure its passage.”
Earlier this year, ITI called on Congress to ratify the USMCA, highlighting the agreement’s digital trade chapter, which fosters technological advancement for American companies of all sizes and industries and solidifies North America as the destination of choice for cutting-edge technology development, manufacturing, and delivery.
