WASHINGTON — ITI President and CEO Jason Oxman made the following statement ahead of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, "The EARN IT Act: Holding the Tech Industry Accountable in the Fight Against Online Child Sexual Exploitation:"

“The tech industry works vigorously to protect the most vulnerable among our users: children. At the same time, we are committed to protecting our broader customer population through robust cybersecurity and data protection. Encryption is fundamental to building trustworthy and reliable technology systems, and critical to safeguarding the security and privacy of children. The EARN IT Act would erode both security and trust by potentially forbidding the use of end-to-end encryption in order to comply with the law. Weakening encryption and the security of technology products, including through the EARN IT Act, does nothing to advance online safety.”
