WASHINGTON – The IT Alliance for the Public Sector (ITAPS), a division of ITI, released the following statement today from Senior Vice President for the Public Sector Trey Hodgkins, reacting to the Obama Administration’s proposed $3.1 billion information technology modernization fund (ITMF):

“We’ve long supported creating better funding options for IT investment and management so the government can harness the technological innovations it needs to achieve its mission,” Hodgkins said. “We’re pleased to see the administration’s continued commitment to finding creative solutions that spur innovation in the government and will review the proposal with our member companies in order to provide constructive, substantive feedback.”

Moving the government away from a funding cycle devoted to maintaining costly, vulnerable legacy IT systems–which account for approximately 78% of the $82 billion in planned 2017 federal IT spending dollars–to new, agile technologies has been a cornerstone for ITAPS advocacy. As Congress returns for an expected lame duck session following the November 8th election, ITAPS is urging lawmakers to pass the bipartisan Modernizing Government Technology Act of 2016 (MGT Act) currently before the Senate.
