WASHINGTON — The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global voice for the technology sector's leading companies, issued the following statement from vice president for government affairs Vince Jesaitis applauding the introduction of the Protecting the Rights of Musicians Act, a bipartisan bill introduced by Reps. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.):

“Innovation stems from the ability to find solutions in ways never thought possible, and not from looking at a problem or outcome through a prescribed lens. This legislation, introduced by Reps. Blackburn and Eshoo, recognizes the importance of innovation and removes the threat of mandating outdated technology be built into mobile devices. Specifically, Section 3 of the bill ensures our companies—that lead the world in innovation—can integrate advanced capabilities in smartphones and other mobile devices, instead of forcing companies to forgo new innovations that consumers want. These provisions protect the ability to innovate, and we applaud the introduction of this bipartisan bill and urge Congress to move forward with it expeditiously."
