Motorola Solutions, Inc., (NYSE :MSI) has named Robert Hoffman, a seasoned public policy expert, as corporate vice president and leader of its global Government Affairs organization. He will join the company early next month and be based at its office in Washington, D.C., reporting to Mark Hacker, general counsel and senior vice president of Legal & Government Affairs.

Before entering the private sector in 2001, Hoffman worked in government for more than 13 years as a policy adviser and speechwriter for four U.S. senators and the governor of California. His tenure on Capitol Hill included serving as legislative director and national security advisor for Sen. Larry Pressler of South Dakota, who was chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee and author of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and Sen. Mike DeWine of Ohio.

Hoffman graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He received a master’s in public policy, with highest honors, from the University of Maryland.
